Working with over 1,000 partners in more than 70 countries, Oxfam is a global organisation that aims to overcome poverty and suffering. We’re proud of the differences we’re making everyday, with our long-term programmes of development, as well as essential emergency relief. Currently, a key area of our work is aimed at alleviating suffering in Aceh and Nias, Indonesia caused by the recent Tsunami and earthquake that left over 170,000 dead and 2 million homeless. Here, we work closely with local communities to support and accelerate the area’s recovery.

Translator (based in Banda Aceh)

The job purpose of this position is to provide high quality translation/ interpretation from English to Indonesian and vice versa to the entire Aceh/Nias programme team. You will be responsible for providing high quality simultaneous translation/ interpretation support for formal and informal meeting with government officials, BRR, staff, etc.; providing professional translation services to human resources/advocacy/ partnership and other departments; translating legal documents; taking minutes during meetings; managing central files, etc.



We are looking for a candidate with minimum two years of experience as a professional translator/interpre ter. S/he should be able to manage own workload without close supervision, proactive, flexible and work independently; work with others to translate the meanings of ideas and information for effective understanding. S/he is expected to have sensitivity to cultural differences; ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts; committed to Equal Opportunities (eg: gender, race, disability) and sympathy with the aims and objectives of Oxfam. This post is a D-2 level with starting monthly gross salary of IDR 7,290,000,- for at least 6 month-contract duration.
